This neighborhood cat from waaayyyy too many blocks away has been showing up at our house the past few weeks.
When I asked Delia if she was ever going to pet her, Delia just said “I’m not down with O.P.P.”
I, on the other hand, think O.P.P. is very convenient. We exchange love and at the end of the day, pussy goes home to her own house for food and shelter and all of that.
Touching back on compatibility: being close in age means most of the time we can make jokes referencing pop culture (like this song that came out in 1991: the year I graduated from high school) and the other person will get it. If I were twenty years older than Delia? Chances are I wouldn’t have had any idea what the fuck she was talking about when she said she isn’t “down with O.P.P.”.
I’m not saying generational compatibility is everything or that it’s a guarantee you’ll understand and get each other’s jokes, but I do think if sharing a sense of humor is important to you in a relationship, it helps to be close to one another’s age.
