On this first day of a new year, I woke up grateful. Grateful I am not sick or hung over today. So glad drinking is not part of our lives. Glad to wake up fresh, not poisoned.
I’m always glad Delia and I don’t much do what the majority of people in this country do (we did not party or go out at all in any way yesterday/last night), but *especially* on this holiday that is supposed to be all about new beginnings but for a lot of people is overshadowed by getting wasted the night before on New Year’s Eve.
I love that we celebrate daily life and holidays in our own ways (usually at home with each other).
I love that what is normal for lots of people we have decided is non-compulsory for us and undesired. I love that we were not around people pressuring us to drink.
It sounds dramatic, but today is a good reminder to be grateful for this basic joy: DELIA IS ALIVE.
2023 is a good year to start off by not taking life for granted.
