Delia and I have been together longer than Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally have.

If this (worthwhile) article is correct, Megan and Nick have been together since 2003, while Delia and I have been together since 2002:

While I know it’s not great for people to compare themselves to others, sometimes it is helpful to get some perspective and affirmation, especially when you’re not in the visible norm. When you’re atypical, you’re less likely to have your milestones recognized by others or your less-normal choices or circumstances (not having, or not being able to have kids, for example) affirmed, supported, and/or modeled by people you respect and admire.

I love people — especially women — being able to say out loud that having kids would probably have led to resentments. Nobody can actually “do it all”, and sometimes the most loving thing you can do for your children is to recognize that, and not have them at all.

Of course, Delia and I did try to get pregnant before she went on hormones. I’ve been meaning to blog an update about that now that we’re in our fifties, but it’s not the kind of quick and casual post I can just fire off without taking some time for the emotions that come up around it. Later, I hope.
