While Delia was at home visiting family in the Midwest, her parents brought out some stuff from her childhood: football cards, mementos, and school art she made as a kid. Like this macabre Thanksgiving scene:
I laughed so hard. There is something about her as a child exhibiting such a darkly colorful and conflicted vision that is delightful.
The precision of the fence & letters,, with the cow carefully rendered behind the white fence. The sad concentration on the executioner’s face with arm upraised, fully committed. The turkey so resigned.
“HAPPY THANKSGIVING” indeed.
I am glad we have similar conflicted feelings and opinions about this holiday and are able to celebrate it privately. Minimally. Without arguments or craziness.
